Singha Durbar – Kathmandu


Singha Durbar is famous for government office of Nepal. The Durbar was built by the Rana dynasty as a private residence for Rana Prime Minister.
Singha Durbar, which can be translated as Lion Palace in English is in Kathmandu. It is the official seat of the government of Nepal.  Originally it was built by the Rana dynasty as the private residence to the Prime Minister of Nepal. But today it houses Parliament of Nepal: House of Representatives (Pratinidhi Sabha) and House of State (Rashtriya Sabha) as well as ministries and government offices.
It is also the head office for state run Radio Nepal and Nepal Television. It was designed by Kishore Narsingh Rana. A large portion of Singha Durbar was destroyed by fire in 1973, but much of the damage has since been rebuilt.
